64-bit edition of MS SQL 2005 verified as a powerful platform for Escalate Retail solutions

SAN DIEGO, CA, December 13, 2006 – Escalate Retail, a premier provider of customer-focused software solutions, today announced that they have completed testing of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to determine the maximum performance of an Escalate Retail system utilizing the power of the 64-bit edition.

Two types of tests were developed: performance tests to determine maximum throughput, and stress tests to determine how much load SQL Server 2005 could handle. The results indicate that SQL Server 2005 Standard 64-Bit Edition in combination with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 X64 Editions creates an extremely powerful platform.

Escalate Retail was able to achieve simulated Web and call center activity of over 24,000 orders through 1,200 call center users based on an order time of three minutes per call; 20,000 orders per hour were entered via batch order entry from file with order processing running at 60,000 per hour. For a typical retailer with an average order of $150, this would support an online business of up to $2.8B in revenue annually.

The testing was done over the period of March 27 through April 7, 2006 at the Microsoft Technology Center in Austin, TX. Live production data containing approximately 10.5 million customers, 6600 products, and over 1.3 million orders was provided by Escalate Retail’s client Hickory Farms.

“I was invited as a user to attend the SQL Server 2005 benchmark and can say without hesitation the results are real,” said Dan Buckland, Director of Application Services for Hickory Farms. “We used real customer data for the benchmark. I wanted standard order processing and Batch Order entry times to compare with my HP3000 times. I feel we achieved that.”

“With SQL Server 2005 64-bit, we are delivering a robust data platform to our partners that enables them to create highly scalable IT solutions to fit the individual needs of their customers,” said Lucho Torres, group product manager for SQL Server at Microsoft Corp. “We are very pleased with the results of Escalate Retail’s testing, which shows that when faced with high load scenarios, SQL Server maintains impressive performance while reducing complexity.”

Michael Julson, CTO of Escalate Retail, stated, “I was very impressed by two characteristics of the version. First, despite a very large load on the database, we saw no lock escalation contention, and second was the amazing performance across the board. The combination of Escalate Retail’s Ecometry product and SQL Server 2005 can clearly handle the largest order volumes of any multi-channel retailer in the industry.”
