ScanAlert Inc., a provider of online security verification services, last week launched a multi-lingual account information security, or AIS, certification service for Visa credit cards used in Latin America.

The service is similar to the validation service that ScanAlert has been providing since July 2005 to Visa acquirers and merchants in the 22-country Asia-Pacific region, a spokesman says. ScanAlert was selected following a competitive review of PCI scan vendors. PCI stands for the payment card industry data security standards.

ScanAlert’s validation service is entirely sponsored by Visa Latin America so that merchants and Internet payment service providers, or IPSPs, in the region can be validated to the PCI data security standard at no cost, the spokesman says.

The service covers all of the information, tools, and customer support services that merchants and IPSPs need to enroll in PCI, conduct security scans, patch any security holes, complete the security self-assessment questionnaire and generate a validation report to member banks.
