Spiegel Brands Inc. is making a pair of acquisitions. Backed by money from investment firm Golden Gate Capital, Spiegel is acquiring Carabella Corp. and its Carabella and A.B. Lambdin direct market businesses.
The acquisition also includes Carabella’s e-commerce site, No. 342 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites , which sells swimwear, eveningwear, exercise clothes and business attire, and ABLambdin.com. "The addition of Carabella and A.B. Lambdin gives us a great opportunity to serve a larger share of the growing swimwear market and capitalize on the growth opportunities in relation to our existing businesses,” says Spiegel president and CEO Geralynn Madonna.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Spiegel, which also owns and operates Newport News and the Shape FX brands, is working with Golden Gate to acquire more catalogs and e-commerce companies in the women`s specialty retail market. Golden Gate also owns Appleseed`s, Drapers & Damon`s, The Tog Shop, Norm Thompson Outfitters, No. 117 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites , Solutions and Sahalie. "We are very excited about the addition of Carabella and A.B. Lambdin to the Catalog Holdings family of women`s apparel and specialty brands," says Golden Gate Capital managing director Stefan Kaluzny."With the addition of the two brands, we have significantly increased our offerings of swimwear and elegant eveningwear.
