Online eyewear retailer Frames Direct has appointed consultant Richard V. Burckhardt to lead its Austin-based marketing team. Burckhardt has worked for Frames Direct remotely as a contract consultant for the past year.

In his new role, Burckhardt will work with the Frames Direct web development team to ensure online content is not only customer-friendly but search engine-friendly. He also will take over press relations and pay-per-click marketing efforts.

Burckhardt previously was web marketing manager at the Palm Springs Desert Resorts Convention and Visitors Authority. Prior to that he served as senior web designer and webmaster at Desert Publications Inc.

FramesDirect.com features more than 110,000 products, including designer frames, eyeglasses, sunglasses, prescription lenses and contact lenses, as well as web technology that assists shoppers in finding eyeglasses, sunglasses and frames. That technology, dubbed the FrameFinder Virtual Try-On System, enables users to “try on” frames from any personal computer by simply uploading a photo of themselves.
