Q1 online retail sales up 25% over year ago, Commerce Department reports

Online retail sales in the first quarter $24.2 billion, up 25.4% over Q1 in 2005, the Census Bureau of the U.S. Department of Commerce reports. Q1’s online sales accounted for 2.7% of all retail sales as measured by the Commerce Department.

The numbers have been adjusted for seasonal variation and treading day differences. Q1’s online sales accounted for 2.7% of all retail sales as measured by the Commerce Department.

On a not-adjusted basis, online sales in the first quarter reached $25.4 billion, up 25.6% from a year earlier.

The Commerce Department reports that total retail sales for the first quarter 2006 reached $976.1 billion, on an adjusted basis, up 8.1% from a year earlier.
