New company formed to serve high volume and mission critical sites in e-retail, financial services and government.

PITTSBURGH, PA April 10, 2006 - Newly formed Metronome Labs offers secure web analytics software for e-retail, financial services and government sites with high volume or highly sensitive data. The company provides site owners with a new alternative to traditional web analytics approaches for understanding visitor behavior, site performance and multi-channel customers. Metronome solutions deliver a more complete picture of web traffic with lower cost of ownership and works completely inside the firewall so that no sensitive or proprietary data is transferred across the Internet or to 3rd party services. Metronome enables multi-channel customer understanding by associating web site visitor sessions with customer and market data from other touchpoints.

Metronome Labs makes its debut at the Net.Finance 2006 conference April 10 – 12 in Phoenix, Arizona. A conference sponsor, Metronome Labs will moderate a discussion on tracking and analytics best practices and will demonstrate its products for secure web traffic data collection and analysis.

Forrester Research estimated the worldwide web analytics market at $377 million last year and noted significant and growing concern by both site owners and their customers about Internet privacy. According to Forrester, web site visitors are now more actively deleting cookies and spyware, more reluctant to purchase on-line and more concerned about protecting their purchase history. Robert Emmert, Managing Director of Metronome Labs says, “Financial services and e-retail properties are very concerned about the actual and perceived threats of sending proprietary data across the Internet and of sending tags or scripts out with their web pages to report back from the visitor’s computer. Now sites serious about security have the option of using Metronome Labs’ secure analytics.”

Metronome Labs enables companies with complex, high volume, or confidential sites to understand what their visitors are trying to do at their site and where they run into problems. Metronome solutions install completely inside the firewall and provide a more complete and accurate picture of web traffic without compromising corporate security standards or customer’s private information. The traditional approaches to web traffic analysis, server log file analysis and page tagging systems have significant limitations in how much of the transaction can be seen and how much post-collection processing is required before the data can be used for analysis. Doug Watt, Vice President of Product Management at Metronome Labs explains, “Web site users seem to have a different view of what constitutes ‘spyware’ than many web analytics vendors do and site owners are looking for a better alternative. You just cannot achieve an integrated multi-channel view of customer activity using the page tag/ASP model without transferring customer or proprietary data across the Internet. ”

The company offers two products today with two others in development. Metronome Capture appliance uses passive data sniffing inside the firewall to collect both visitor actions and server responses in real time. Metronome Capture filters and organizes the data by visitor session so that it is immediately available for meaningful reporting and analysis. Metronome Explain software adds powerful analysis and reporting capabilities. Metronome Explain provides standard, ad hoc, and custom reporting on the data from Metronome Capture and from customer, operational and market data for multi-channel enterprises.

The new company, which is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was founded in late 2005 by former principals and colleagues of BeatBox Technologies, LLC, an innovator in clickstream data collection and analysis. BeatBox Technologies, which was originally known as ClickCadence, LLC was acquired by Mercury Interactive of Mountain View, California (Ticker: MERQ) in September 2005. Mercury acquired the firm in order to deploy BeatBox technology embedded in its strategic product lines. Metronome Labs has licensed the BeatBox data capture technology from Mercury for use in its series of products. Metronome Labs will also provide on-going service and support to customers who purchased products directly from BeatBox Technologies before the acquisition.

The new company has an experienced management team that has worked together for many years. Robert Emmert led sales, marketing and business development at a number of startup software companies including BeatBox Technologies, iGate, Haley Enterprises, Formtek and CIMCORP. Vice President of Product Management, Douglas Watt has led product management, development, delivery and support organizations for both established and new ventures including CIMCORP, AutoSimulations and Brooks Automation. Most recently, Watt has been a principal of SpringSmart Inc., serving as an advisor to startup software companies, including BeatBox Technologies. Stephen Walizer, Vice President of Product Development was a key member of the technical staff at BeatBox Technologies from its early days through the acquisition by Mercury. He leads the development effort at Metronome Labs.
