In a move to more closely integrate Macys.com with the growing Macy’s store chain, Federated Department Stores Inc. has appointed store marketing veteran Peter Sachse to the new position of chairman of Macys.com.
In a move to more closely integrate Macys.com with the growing Macy’s store chain, Federated Department Stores Inc. has appointed Federated marketing veteran Peter Sachse to the new position of chairman of Macys.com.
Top oversight of Macys.com will transition to Sachse, Federated’s former chief marketing officer, from Michael J. Osborn, who has been named president and chief operating officer of the Macy’s Home Store division.
Federated announced last month that it will invest $130 million in Macys.com and Bloomingdales.com.
Kent Anderson retains his position as president of Macys.com and reports to Sachse, who now has overall responsibility for the Macy’s brand online and will work to reinforce the integration of Macys.com with the Macy’s store chain. Federated, which operates more than 800 department stores, including several hundred under the Macy’s brand, has been placing the Macy’s brand on more of its stores to build a main national brand.
"Macy`s emergence as a national brand will create new opportunities for our direct-to-consumer business," said Federated president, CEO and chairman Terry J. Lundgren. "Working with Kent Anderson, Peter will provide additional focused leadership as we significantly increase our online sales volume, as well as the customer service and fulfillment infrastructure, over the next several years."
Sachse was succeeded as corporate chief marketing officer and president of the Macy’s corporate marketing division by Anne McDonald, a former marketing executive of Citibank and PepsiCo.
Sachse had served as president of Macy’s corporate marketing division since June 2003. Prior to that, he was president of Federated’s Bon Marche division (now Macy’s Northwest). He began his retail career with Macy’s in Kansas City in 1980.
Both Sachse and McDonald report to Lundgren.
