As CTO for eBay MarketPlaces, Carey will be responsible for eBay’s product development, architecture, project management, operations, information systems and research labs. He serves on advisory boards for Hewlett-Packard Co., Dell Inc. and IBM Corp.

“Matt’s experience in leading a large technology organization and growing a complex platform is unparalleled, and we area thrilled that he is joining us,” said John Donahoe, president of eBay MarketPlaces. “Matt will help the eBay technology team focus on delivering innovative new ways for our community to connect and trade with one another.”

Carey succeeds Lynn Reedy, who in October announced plans to leave eBay.
