Walmart.com is reporting a 40% increase in web site traffic for the holidays. The online arm of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., No. 12 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, says more than 140 million visitors clicked on Walmart.com in November and December.

For all of 2005, Walmart.com expected to receive more than 500 million visitors. “Thanksgiving week was our strongest week this holiday season at Walmart.com as traffic exceeded our expectations by more than 25%, with over 25 million weekly visits,” says a company spokeswoman. "We saw over 5 million visits on Thanksgiving Day alone.”

The biggest selling items at Walmart.com during the holidays were electronics and toys, the spokeswoman says.
