WASHINGTON--Dec. 8, 2005-- InPhonic Taps Mobile Entertainment Veteran Sean Mallon to Head New Business Unit and Signs Agreements with Industry Leaders m-Qube and RingTone Technologies
InPhonic, Inc., a leading online seller of wireless services and products, announced today the launch of mFly and the new business unit dedicated to mobile content services. To this end, InPhonic is entering into agreements with m-Qube, Inc., a leading mobile channel enabler, and RingTone Technologies, LLC (RTT) to accelerate its entry into this growing market. Along with this launch, InPhonic has also hired Sean Mallon as Vice President and General Manager for Mobile Content Services to spearhead this new business unit. InPhonic`s mobile content offering will include thousands of ringtones, wallpapers, games and other mobile entertainment products. Several of these services are now available to mobile phone users throughout the United States at mFly (www.mfly.com), InPhonic`s popular comparison shopping site Wirefly (www.wirefly.com) and through select InPhonic-powered Web sites.
According to Informa, a recognized telecom consultancy, mobile content is the fastest growing segment of the telecommunications market, and is expected to remain so for the foreseeable future with worldwide revenue projected at $35 billion by 2010. InPhonic`s agreements with m-Qube and RTT will help facilitate an immediate and demonstrative entrance into the fast-growing mobile content space. Utilizing RTT`s content delivery platform, InPhonic will offer ringtones and a wide array of popular text alerts such as daily horoscopes, celebrity gossip and joke of the day services. m-Qube will provide North American carrier connectivity and distribution. The new InPhonic mobile content offering will deliver Premium SMS (PSMS) services to subscribers from all major U.S. wireless carriers. PSMS allows content service providers to place content charges directly on the subscriber`s carrier bill, thus facilitating the collection process. The large volume of online traffic generated by InPhonic`s wireless activation & service (WAS) business gives the new InPhonic mobile content business unit a unique and sustainable competitive advantage for selling mobile content services, since InPhonic can both "up-sell" its current sales traffic with little, if any incremental marketing cost and also offer these mobile entertainment services as a stand alone branded offering.
"We see this new business unit and mobile content offering as a key extension to our current services, and both an exciting and significant opportunity for us to leverage the millions of customers and online shoppers that already use InPhonic-powered sites for their wireless needs," said David A. Steinberg, InPhonic`s Chairman and CEO. "Sean Mallon`s addition to the InPhonic team has already made a significant impact in these two agreements with m-Qube and RTT. These new deals along with Sean`s extensive experience in the mobile entertainment space further enable and bolster InPhonic`s entrance into the mobile content market."
"We are very excited to be working with InPhonic on their new mobile content services offering. We believe InPhonic is a recognized leader in its space and extremely well-positioned with the thousands of channels in its expansive network to deliver a full range of mobile content services with a well-established consumer following," said Jeffrey Glass, m-Qube`s Chief Executive Officer. "We think m-Qube`s platform and services can provide InPhonic a world-class solution for their content services offering." "We`re thrilled to be working with an industry leader like InPhonic," said Kevin Bertram, Managing Partner of RingTone Technologies, LLC. "This relationship harnesses the power of three innovative companies and delivers it to millions of users."
Prior to joining InPhonic, Sean Mallon was the president and chief operating officer of Qmobile, Inc., a leader in mobile entertainment.
