JCPenney.com sales up 30% in September; Bluefly up 61%

September sales at J. C. Penney Co. Inc.’s JCPenney.com increased 30% in September, the company reports. September sales at Bluefly Inc.’s Bluefly.com increased by 61% over September last year, reaching $ 4.8 million.

September sales at J. C. Penney Co. Inc.’s JCPenney.com increased 30% in September, the company reports. Department store sales were up 1.9% while comparable store sales were up 1.4%. J.C. Penney, No. 11 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, does not break out web sales by dollars. It reports that department store sales totaled $1.25 billion in September and direct sales (catalog and Internet) were $254 million, virtually unchanged from September 2004’s $253.

September sales at Bluefly Inc.’s Bluefly.com increased by 61% over September last year, reaching $ 4.8 million from $ 3 million, the company reports. Bluefly, No. 123 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, plans to continue to report monthly sales through 2005, and to report sales on a quarterly basis thereafter. Bluefly.com sells designer fashions at discount prices.
