J.C. Penney’s Q2 web sales rise 30%

J.C. Penney’s second-quarter web sales rose by more than 30% year-over-year, as total sales increased 5.4% and comp store sales rose 4.2%, the retailer said today.

J.C. Penney Co. Inc.’s second-quarter web sales rose by more than 30% year-over-year, the retailer said today. Total sales increased 5.4% to $3.98 billion, and comp store sales rose 4.2%.

Total Q2 direct sales, including web and catalog, rose 7.1% over the prior year’s quarter. By comparison, in Q2 2004, total direct sales fell 1.6% year-over-year. The second quarter ended July 30. The retailer did not further break out Q2 figures on direct-to-consumer sales.

J.C. Penney, No. 11 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, reported $812 million in online sales in 2004.
