Penney’s web-based sales grow 30% in July while total sales are up 2.6%

Internet sales at J.C. Penney Co. Inc. were up 30% in July over July last year, the company reports. Total sales were up 2.6% to $1.18 billion from $1.15 billion in July last year.

Internet sales at J.C. Penney Co. Inc. were up 30% in July over July last year, the company reports. Total sales were up 2.6% to $1.18 billion from $1.15 billion in July last year.

J.C. Penney, No. 11 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, does not break out web sales from catalog sales, but it reports that combined Internet/catalog sales were up 4% in the month to $182 million from $175 million.

Department store revenue was up 2.3% in the month to $1 billion from $980 million, while comparable store sales were up 1.6%

For the first six months, Internet/catalog sales were up 6.2% to $1.25 billion from $1.17 billion while department store sales were up 4.2% to $6.85 billion from $6.57 billion. Companywide revenue was up 4.5% to $8 billion from $7.7 billion.
