Penney June web sales up 40% from June ’04; Bank web/catalog sales up 30%

J.C. Penney`s combined catalog/web sales reached $216 million in June, up 9.1% from June last year. Jos. A. Bank`s combined Internet/ catalog sales were up 30.2%.

Internet sales at J. Penney Co. Inc. were up 40% in June over June last year, the company reported today. J.C. Penney does not break out sales for its web site, but it reported that combined catalog/web sales reached $216 million in June, up 9.1% from $198 million in June last year.

Companywide sales were up 8.2% to $1.5 billion from $1.4 billion a year ago. Comparable department store sales were up 7.4% in June.

For the first 22 weeks of the company’s fiscal year, catalog/Internet sales were up 6.6% to $1.06 billion from $1 billion a year ago, while companywide sales were up 4.9% to $6.9 billion from $6.6 billion. J.C. Penney ranks No. 11 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites.

Also today, Jos. A. Bank Clothiers Inc.,which ranks No. 207 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, reported that combined Internet/catalog sales were up 30.2% in June from June 2004, without breaking out numbers. Companywide sales were up 23.8% to $40 million. Five-month Internet/catalog sales were up 25.5% and companywide sales were up 21.5% to $168.1 million.
