When shoppers search for automobile tires or other products on Become.com, the search results now feature news articles on the latest government and independent reports on relevant product safety and performance.

“By providing relevant and up-to-date information combined with our index of more than 3 billion pages of shopping related content, we are helping people make more confident, better-informed purchases," said Michael Yang, founder, president and CEO. "Not only do we want to help consumers make informed decisions, we also want to protect them. Product recalls happen daily and the News Search service is designed to build consumer awareness."

Become.com’s News Search feature scours hundreds of U.S. news sources automatically every 10 minutes to identify news articles of interest to consumers. A recent search for tires, for instance, produced press releases from the National Highway Transportation Administration on tire safety; newspaper reports on tire-buying tips; and product-quality reports from J.D. Power and Associates.

The news links run alongside sponsored links to retailers of the searched-for product.

Become.com, which has been operating under a beta test stage for a few months, is expected to officially launch on Tuesday, July 12, a spokeswoman says.
