Stephen Gordon, founder and chairman of Restoration Hardware, has resigned to become CEO of Sundance Catalog Co., an online and catalog marketer founded by actor Robert Redford in 1989.

Gordon founded Corte Madera, CA-based Restoration Hardware in 1980. As CEO, he built the company to over 100 stores, with an e-commerce and catalog division. He turned over CEO duties to Gary Friedman in 2001, who joined the company from Williams-Sonoma.

"I am proud of Restoration Hardware and the brand we`ve all created,” Gordon said. “I am confident the leadership team will continue their successful drive to enhance the company`s performance and the brand we built. I am extremely excited about the opportunity at Sundance and am eager to help build upon its strong catalog business and well respected brand."

Gordon took Restoration Hardware public in 1998. The company expects final 2004 sales to reach $500 million. Restoration Hardware has named Friedman interim chairman of the Board of Directors.

Sundance sells home décor, fashion items and apparel accessories. The Sundance CEO position became available last July when an investor group led by Webster Capital and ACI Capital purchased the interest held by the former CEO and became Robert Redford`s operating partners in Sundance`s catalog and internet business.
