Post-Christmas online spending on Visa cards rises 39% year-to-year

Online spending growth on Visa cards pushed past Christmas, as it rose 38.6% for the week ended Jan. 2, to $1.999 billion from $1.442 billion in the comparable week a year ago, Visa reports.

Online spending growth on Visa cards pushed past Christmas, as it rose 38.6% for the week ended Jan. 2, to $1.999 billion from $1.442 billion in the comparable week a year ago, Visa reports.

By comparison, total spending on Visa cards for the same week rose 20% year-to-year, to $21.193 billion from $17.661 billion, Visa says.

The number of e-commerce transactions on Visa cards for the week ended Jan. 2 rose 32.6% year-to-year to 25 million from 18.9 million, Visa says. The total number of Visa transactions, meantime, rose 21.6% to 370.6 million.

Visa includes b2c and b2b sales in its e-commerce figures.
