Ritz Camera deploys web-based POS in Boater’s World and Ritz photo stores

Joining a growing trend among retailers to deploy Java-based, web-enabled point-of-sale systems, Ritz Camera Centers is rolling out a Datavantage Xstore system in its Boater’s World and Ritz photography locations, the retailer said today.

Joining a growing trend among retailers to deploy Java-based, web-enabled point-of-sale systems, Ritz Camera Centers Inc. is rolling out a Datavantage Xstore system in its Boater’s World Marine Centers and Ritz photography locations, the retailer said today.

"Our existing POS had served us well over the years, but it lacks the flexibility and functionality available in an open-source, Java-based platform such as Xstore," says Bob O`Hern, vice president of Information Systems for Ritz Camera Centers.

One of the first Xstore features Ritz will utilize is the ability to send information on new products from headquarters directly the POS screens operated by sales clerks, says a spokesman for Cleveland-based Datavantage, a unit of Micros Systems Inc.

The Xstore system will also enable Ritz to integrate its POS data with other applications, such as inventory management, and provide headquarters visibility into ongoing POS transaction data, the spokesman adds.

Ritz Camera Centers operates more than 110 Boater’s World Marine Centers and more than 1,100 photography stores under brands including Ritz Camera, Wolf Camera, Kits Camera and Inkleys.
