Minneapolis – October 26, 2004 – Retek, Inc. announces that the Armani Group, a worldwide industry leader in the luxury fashion sector, has chosen to expand its relationship with Retek. The Armani Group is rolling out a global implementation of Retek Point-of-Sale (RPOS), a Java-based flexible and scalable application that allows customers to complete a purchase anywhere in the store.
RPOS will serve as a common store platform to support mission critical point-of-sale transactions in the Armani Group’s worldwide network of 304 direct stores. The Armani Group operates group stores throughout North and South America, Europe and the Middle East and Asia / Pacific.
“We have confidence in Retek to support our global business. Retek is one of the only Java POS vendors that is supporting an international business today,” said Gianni Piazza, CIO Giorgio Armani Group. “A single Java platform for all geographies will simplify maintenance and support, reduce our overall cost of technology ownership, and most importantly, allow us to provide optimal levels of service for our customers by leveraging common business practices between locations.”
Retek POS provides retailers with a technologically advanced application that delivers rapid execution and greater personalization while enabling reduced operating costs and greater flexibility. RPOS is part of Retek’s Integrated Store Operations Solution that includes Inventory Management and Customer Order management.
The Armani Group currently uses Retek’s Store Inventory Management (SIM) solution to drive store revenue and productivity by supporting complex product control and availability tasks in the U.S. stores. The company has generated considerable value through reduced staffing and inventory carrying costs, by diverting external product handling into the store and closer to the point of purchase.
“We are delighted to move into this next phase of our relationship. The Armani Group is a thought-leader in the store environment and is changing the economics of store operations,” said Greg Donnelly, Vice President of Integrated Store Operations at Retek. “It’s rare to find a partner that can so efficiently bring an IT vision to life, while keeping an eye on what the consumer values.”
