The digital music market remains so competitive that the providers are always looking for a way to appear better than their competitors. The latest: Apple Computer Inc. today announced that its iTunes Music Store has over 1 million songs available for sale in the U.S. ITunes says that makes it the first online digital music service to offer consumers a 1-million-song catalog.

ITunes features music from all five major record labels and over 600 independent labels from around the world. Since iTunes’ launch last year, consumers have downloaded more than 100 million songs.

The iTunes Music Store is available in the U.S., U.K., France and Germany. Users can download songs to MACs or PCs as well as to Apple’s iPod playback device.
