Amazon.com Inc. is becoming one of the major apparel retailing sites, the company announced today. Amazon says that since the launch of its apparel site in November 2002, more than 1 million customers have ordered an apparel item from one of 200 brands that market clothing at the site.

Amazon says that in just the past few months, 50 retailers and brands have joined the Amazon apparel and accessories store, including Baby Phat, Bluefly, Coldwater Creek, Elisabeth, JLO by Jennifer Lopez, J. Jill, Lucky Brand Jeans, Maidenform, Pacific Sunwear, Rocawear, Samsonite, Shady LTD, Teva Sports Sandals and XOXO.

Amazon reports that apparel and accessories sales in the first two months of 2004 are up 90% year-over-year.

"Pacific Sunwear selected Amazon.com because of the exposure to millions of new customers who haven`t yet experienced our brand," said Carl Womack, senior vice president and CFO of Pacific Sunwear of California Inc.
