Following a successful experience with Manhattan Associates` Slotting Optimisation tool, Halfords is now well positioned to reap the benefits of Manhattan Associates` Warehouse Management System
LONDON - March 2, 2004 - Manhattan Associates, the global leader in providing supply chain execution (SCE) solutions, today announced that Halfords, the UK`s leading retailer of car parts, bikes and accessories, has successfully implemented Manhattan Associates` Warehouse Management System (WMS) at its Washford distribution centre near Redditch, Birmingham.
The implementation of Manhattan Associates` WM for Open Systems product has given Halfords a solution that is already enabling it to manage and control its warehousing processes more effectively. The ability of the product to support the anticipated growth of Halfords` business was a fundamental reason for choosing Manhattan Associates and Halfords has been able to continue its store expansion strategy, while crucially maintaining the service it provides to its store network.
Following implementation, Halfords has seen a significant improvement in the volume of goods receipts it can process. Halfords worked together with Manhattan Associates to ensure that during the go-live phase, there was no significant drop-off in either product throughput or service level. WM for Open Systems, operating at Halfords on IBM`s eServer platform, has also given the retailer greater overall visibility and control of its distribution operations. According to Nick Wharton, Business Development and IS Director at Halfords, "Our implementation and post-implementation experience has vindicated our decision to select a `best-in-class` supply chain execution solution. Manhattan Associates` solution has lived up to its promise. Further its ability to work in such a complementary fashion to our SAP ERP system which is being implemented in parallel, will bring further business benefits."
With the focus shifting over the next few months to an additional implementation of Manhattan Associates` WMS at Halfords` Lakeside Distribution Centre (DC), Wharton continues, "Following the smooth implementation at the Redditch DC, we`re looking to use our experience there to ensure the Lakeside go-live is an equally well managed process, even though this facility has a different stock keeping unit (SKU) set."
Allen Scott, vice president of European operations at Manhattan Associates, commented, "This project is enabling Halfords to build the infrastructure and support required for the long-term whilst also allowing the company to achieve immediate business benefits. For businesses that have an ERP system but need powerful supply chain execution capability, Halfords demonstrates the greater overall value that can be unlocked from a company`s supply chain when a best in class supply chain execution system is combined with the complementary strengths of an ERP system."
Halfords is the UK`s leading retailer of car parts, bikes and accessories. With more than 400 stores across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, Halfords is one of the largest non-food retailers in the UK. It has over 9,000 staff and around 12,000 product lines.
