Ahead of the holidays, BizRate.com beefs up its search tools

BizRate.com, the comparison shopping and product rating service, has launched a shopping search tool with a searchable database of more than 20 million product offers. It will double that to 40 million by Christmas, it said today.

BizRate.com, the comparison shopping and product rating service, has launched a shopping search tool with a searchable database of more than 20 million product offers. It will double that to 40 million by Christmas, it said today.

BizRate said it has increased the number of stores in its shopping search engine to 38,000 from 3,300 a year ago.

BizRate said its new search engine will check product availability and pricing continuously and provide full-index updates four times a day. It said its engine is designed to answer the majority of queries in under 20 milliseconds, and that it encompasses retail service factors such as merchant reputation and product popularity and availability.

BizRate also said it’s testing a VisualMatch search feature, through which consumers can visually search for products by submitting digital photos and getting matching product search results.
