BOSTON -- eTail 2003 East (August 13, 2003) -- MLB Advanced Media, LP (MLBAM), the interactive media and Internet company of Major League Baseball, said today that it has sold, to date, a record 6 million tickets online at MLB.com, the official league website, and all 30 individual club sites, a 54% increase over the 3.9 million tickets sold online for the entire 2002 season. The company sold 2 million online tickets in 2001. More than 20% of Major League Baseball tickets, excluding season tickets, are sold online

The company said it is on track to sell in excess of 7 million tickets for the 2003 season.

“Online ticket sales already surpass the number of tickets sold by telephone or at ticket outlets and we believe that buying tickets online is the way most single game tickets will be purchased in the future,” said Noah Garden, Senior Vice President of e-Commerce for MLBAM.

The online experience provides an easy, efficient and effective way for baseball fans to shop for tickets. At this time 19 team sites provide a view of the field from the specific seats a fan is considering purchasing and 8 teams now offer a print-at-home ticket service eliminating the need for delivery or standing in line at the stadium will-call windows.
