Amazon.com Inc. has lowered the threshold for free shipping on its UK site, the company announced today. Customers will receive free shipping on purchases in excess of £25, down 36% from the previous requirement of £39. Amazon launched its free shipping offer in the UK six months ago.

"We have been impressed by the customer response to our free delivery option," said Robin Terrell, managing director for Amazon.co.uk. "It is working extremely well both for our customers and for the business."

As in the US, free Super Saver Delivery in the UK is 3-5 days slower than standard delivery and allows Amazon flexibility to consolidate orders and shipments. Amazon attributes a 42% increase in unit sales in the second quarter vs. Q2 ’02 to free shipping.
