Web sales up 50% at Sportsman’s Guide

Internet-based sales accounted for 30% of total sales in 2002 at the Sportsman’s Guide Inc., up from 21% the prior year, the outdoor gear and apparel retailer reported today.

Internet-based sales accounted for 30% of total sales in 2002 at the Sportsman’s Guide Inc., up from 21% the prior year, the outdoor gear and apparel retailer reported today.

Full year sales at the South St. Paul, MN-based retailer totaled $180.3 million, up 6.2% over the $169.7 million the year before. Web sales reached $54 million, up nearly 52% from $35.6 million the year earlier.

Earnings for the 12 months were $4 million vs. $2.8 million the year before. The company attributed the stronger profitability to increased web sales and a more targeted catalog marketing plan.
