Extends ECM with next-generation capabilities including reports management, records management, collaboration, trusted content services and rapid deployment

ORLANDO, Fl. – Sept. 10, 2002 – Documentum (Nasdaq: DCTM), the leading provider of enterprise content management (ECM), today announced Documentum 5, the latest version of its award-winning ECM platform. The platform was unveiled at Momentum, Documentum’s Worldwide User Conference, to more than 1500 customers and partners. Based on extensive input from Documentum customers and partners, the platform offers:

Enhanced usability and deployability to enable widespread adoption of content management

Expanded enterprise collaboration that can be extended to any business process

Fixed content management, to manage images, reports and records

Advanced trust, security and compliance services to provide unmatched protection of content assets

An open, standards-based development environment for easy application development

Documentum 5 is the only ECM solution that offers unified content services for enterprise document management (EDM), web content management (WCM), digital asset management (DAM) and now fixed content management (FCM) – records, reports and scanned images – in a single, integrated platform. Unlike other content management solutions that support limited content types, Documentum 5 delivers fully integrated content management services and an integrated repository for all types of content, across the entire extended enterprise. With Documentum 5, departments from R&D;, operations and manufacturing to sales, marketing and customer support are linked with common content and processes to help drive better efficiencies for the enterprise.

“Documentum 5 offers the broadest range of content services for all content types and is the most comprehensive content management platform available in the market today,” said Dave DeWalt, president and chief executive officer for Documentum. “With the new enhancements in Documentum 5, combined with the platform’s advanced deployability features, Documentum once again raises the bar for global enterprise content management.”

Easy to Use, Fast to Deploy and Quick to Customize

Designed to appeal to a broad spectrum of users, from skilled, technical developers to business users, Documentum 5 offers a new intuitive user interface that can be quickly customized or simplified to meet specialized user needs. Documentum 5 users can also access its powerful ECM features through a familiar interface of choice, such as a corporate portal, frequently used desktop application or enterprise system such as SAP or Siebel. Documentum 5 seamlessly integrates with existing IT infrastructures, dramatically lowering integration costs. The Documentum 5 platform also provides ease of migration for existing Documentum customers – all applications running on the previous version, Documentum 4i, will also run on the new platform.

Unified Collaboration and Content Management

Documentum 5 includes collaboration capabilities that enable real-time, project team and cross-enterprise collaboration. Users can initiate collaborative activities at any point, from content creation through archiving, taking advantage of features such as chat, email and integration with online conferencing facilities, along with desktop sharing, project team support, deliverables management and integration with Microsoft Project. Collaborative content can be captured, securely shared or stored in the Documentum repository and later referenced and integrated with other content and processes. Using new Content Aggregation Services, Documentum 5 users can also collect and collaborate on content from anywhere including databases, enterprise applications, web sites and file systems.

New Content Types and Services

Documentum 5 adds fixed content management capabilities to the Documentum platform, including new services for enterprise reports management, records management and production-level scanning and imaging. Reports management, commonly referred to as Output Management, captures and stores reports from enterprise applications in the Documentum repository in PDF or XML and distributes them through Documentum’s web publishing capabilities, giving users access to reports via web sites or portals. With new records management capabilities, organizations can apply automated retention and destruction policies to any type of content beyond its active life.

Unmatched Security and Compliance

Documentum 5 significantly expands the platform’s already recognized content security capabilities with enhanced authentication through native public key infrastructure (PKI) and certificate support, audit trail enhancements and full content encryption. Content is further secured within and beyond the repository with digital rights management capabilities. Documentum 5 also supports deeper compliance with evolving regulations and standards, including the Food and Drug Administration’s prescribed regulatory requirements for electronic records and signatures (21 CFR Part 11), the U.S. Department of Defense 5015.2 Design Criteria Standard for Records Management, the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations. With this latest version of the product, Documentum enables the greatest level of compliance with evolving standards and regulations that govern today’s business.

“As the pharmaceutical industry continues to evolve, global companies like ours, look for new ways to streamline processes to get products to market faster,” said Jeff Kouba, director, Research and Development, Scientific Information Services at Allergan, Inc. “With this new version, Documentum illustrates a true understanding of our industry, helping us to comply with FDA requirements and 21 CFR Part 11 regulations. As a longstanding customer, we believe Documentum 5 helps us achieve new levels of operational efficiency.”

Powering Content Applications

Documentum 5 enables developers to quickly create and deploy content-rich applications built on the Documentum ECM platform. With rich, standards-based development tools, Documentum’s 15,000 registered developers can use their development tools of choice. The Documentum 5 Developer Studio delivers over 175 reusable components that represent the full suite of Documentum’s content management capabilities, providing developers with a palette of reusable business logic that they can easily incorporate into their application development efforts. Example content applications that have been built using Documentum’s platform include eLearning, contracts management, eCommerce sites, product catalogs, news publishing, product and quality documentation management and many more.
