Corning, Del Monte Foods, Smithfield Packing Among Companies Rapidly Deploying i2 SCM
28 May 2002
i2 Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: ITWO), the leading provider of value chain management solutions, today announced that its supply chain management (SCM) solutions are being deployed rapidly by customers across multiple industries to gain fast return on their investments (ROI) at a lower total cost of ownership. This fast deployment and quick return on investment is made possible by i2 solutions that incorporate industry best practices and the i2 Business Release (BR) methodology for rapid deployment.
Customers such as Corning Display Technologies, Del Monte Foods, and Smithfield Packing have rapidly deployed i2’s market-leading supply chain management solutions to plan and execute activities involved in managing their supply and demand. These customers report that delivery of the SCM solutions using industry specific templates, i2’s BR methodology and i2’s open technology infrastructure is fueling growth while ensuring rapid return on their investments.
“In these uncertain economic times, companies are more focused than ever on keeping their hard-earned revenue,” said Sam Nakane, i2 chief operating officer. “Customers want the most reliable solutions that deliver the fastest business value. These companies look to i2 for a solid return on investment. We are committed to our customers’ successful realization of that ROI through the development and delivery of technology that offers efficiencies across the value chain.”
Customers in several industries are deploying i2 SCM solutions for planning and execution to help create value and ROI through lower inventory, reduced manufacturing and logistics costs and higher customer satisfaction. Corning Display Technologies selected i2 Factory Planner and Demand Planner to help drive operational efficiencies across its global manufacturing plants. The company needed an integrated planning system to produce optimal plans to reduce inventory levels, maximize trim utilization, reduce set-up times and improve available-to-promise for higher customer service levels. i2 Factory Planner and Demand Planner are live across multiple Corning Display Technologies facilities in Asia and the United States.
“In today’s fast-paced manufacturing environment, a company’s success is definitely dependent upon cost-effectiveness in the value chain,” said Douglas Tai, SCM manager of the Corning Display Technologies’ Taiwan plant. “The supply chain solutions from i2 – and processes we implemented around i2 – are allowing us to move materials quickly and take advantage of lower material costs. We can then in turn pass on these savings to our customers -- and that’s really fueling our growth. Rapid deployment of i2’s SCM solutions at Corning is delivering significant return on our investment. ”
i2 Demand Planner is the first release of several SCM solutions being implemented by Del Monte Foods. The solution is aimed at increasing the accuracy of both long and short-term volume forecasts by enhancing Del Monte’s processes, systems and skills.
“In a difficult economy and challenging industry, leading consumer goods companies like Del Monte are executing on opportunities to power the profitability of their brands,” said Naser Elbawab, manager of Demand Planning at Del Monte Foods. “i2’s Demand Planning processes have enabled the cross-functional organizations to generate a "one number" forecast, yielding more than a 10 percent improvement in the company’s forecast accuracy in the first 12 months.”
The Smithfield Packing Company is a supplier of top-quality, value-added fresh pork, case-ready pork and processed meats to the foodservice, retail and international markets. Smithfield Packing was using a manual process to manage its 2,000 loads per week. The company needed a transportation solution that would electronically create a shipment plan based on changing load schedules. The company also required a solution capable of scaling with the seasonal demand pressure experienced in its business. Smithfield evaluated technology suites from several vendors and chose i2 over competitors due to its solutions functionality, commitment and market leadership.
According to Gary Conrad, vice president of Logistics at Smithfield Packing, “i2 really understands the demands of our business and is a trusted partner in our success. When we implemented i2 Transportation Optimizer we began to see value very quickly. Within two months we were receiving quantifiable benefits by using the i2 transportation solution. Based on what we’ve experienced with i2, we look forward to continuing our relationship.”
i2 Supply Chain Management (SCM) is designed to optimize key business processes across companies within the value chain. i2 SCM provides multi-enterprise visibility, collaboration, intelligent decision support, and execution capabilities. “Today, more businesses recognize the need for all members of their extended supply chain or value chain to act as one to respond to demand volatility and manage supply,” Nakane added. “Our supply chain management solutions lead the market in allowing companies to tackle that part of the value chain that provides significant ROI at the lowest risk.”
