Drugstore.com adds another payer to its pharmacy benefits program

Drugstore.com has become part of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts’ pharmacy network. The program covers 2.4 million patients.

Looking more like a real world drug chain, Bellevue, WA-based Drugstore.com Inc. has become part of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts’ pharmacy network. The 2.4 million participants in the Massachusetts plan join 130 million participants in Wellpoint, AdvancePCS and Express Scripts programs that can access drug benefits at Drugstore.com.

The carrier’s web site--BlueCrossMA.com--will feature a link to Drugstore.com as of May 1.

Drugstore offers customers the ability to be notified as soon as generic versions of prescription drugs they are taking become available. It also has an e-mail program that follows up with prescription customers to make sure they are not suffering drug interactions among their prescriptions. It also has an e-mail refill reminder that allows customers to click through to Drugstore.com and refill their prescriptions with a single click.

"This partnership supports our strategic efforts to build our business with customer-centric insurance providers such as BCBSMA," said Kal Raman, CEO of Drugstore.com.
