Online sales continue their rocket-like rise, BizRate reports

For the week that ended March 23, online sales were up a whopping 62% over the comparable week a year earlier--reaching $908.4 million this year vs. $562.4 million a year ago, BizRate.com reports.

Online shopping remains strong this year, BizRate.com reports. For the week that ended March 23, online sales were up a whopping 62% over the comparable week a year earlier--reaching $908.4 million this year vs. $562.4 million a year ago.

Online orders were 43% ahead of the comparable week a year ago--reaching 6.5 million this year vs. 4.5 million last year. The average purchase during the week was $139.72, 13% ahead of last year’s $123.44.

For the year so far, online dollar volume is up 40%, reaching $10.62 billion this year vs. $7.56 billion last year. Orders are up 32% over the comparable YTD period last year--reaching 83.4 million this year vs. 63 million last year. The average order for the year so far is $127.21, up 6% from $119.84 a year ago.

BizRate bases its total web figures on sales at the 2,000 sites where it has contracts to monitor for quality assurance. BizRate also operates an online shopping comparison service.
