Online gift retailer RedEnvelope Inc. will appoint Alison L. May as president and CEO, effective April 8. May most recently served as COO and acting CFO of Gymboree Corp.

The company says she will take over the duties of CEO Martin McClanan, who is leaving the company, and former president and COO Tom Bazzone, who left RedEnvelope last June to become executive vice president and COO of Restoration Hardware. May will become a member of the Board of Directors.

"As we enter our next growth stage as a leading multi-channel retailer, we need a leader with a strong pedigree in a variety of retail businesses," said Hilary Billings, chairman. "Alison has demonstrated leadership at a number of high-growth specialty retailers, both private and public. Her global retail expertise and intimate knowledge of managing operations and finance will be a tremendous asset to RedEnvelope."

Before joining Gymboree in 2001, May was COO of Esprit de Corps and president and general manager for Patagonia where she managed finance, logistics, human resources and customer service. She also was CFO for Patagonia and has almost 20 years’ experience in the banking industry.
