Amazon names a new European general manager

Amazon.com has named Thomas Lot its European vice president and general manager. Lot was CEO of ChateauOnline, an Internet retailer of wines and champagnes that offers web sites in a number of European languages.

Amazon.com Inc. has named Thomas Lot its European vice president and general manager. Lot will also serve as managing director of Amazon.fr.

Lot is the former Europe retail director and French country manger for Apple Computer and was a sales and marketing director for Compaq Computer Corp., France. Most recently, Lot was CEO of ChateauOnline, an Internet retailer of wines and champagnes that offers web sites in a number of European languages and delivers products to a number of European countries. He developed the customer base to 250,000 subscribers.

"Thomas brings great expertise in serving European customers and will play an important role in further enhancing Amazon’s great customer experience, while honoring local cultures and customs." said Diego Piacentini, senior vice president, worldwide retail and marketing for Amazon.com. “Europe is an important region for Amazon’s long-term growth, and with Thomas Lot’s leadership, we’re looking forward to continuing to provide the best customer experience at Amazon.de, Amazon.fr and Amazon.co.uk.”
