Smart & Final, a $2 billion-a-year California-based supermarket chain with 233 stores, has implemented an electronic receipt program from AfterBOT Inc. and Sun Microsystems Inc. Smart & Final expects to generate 30 million e-receipts a year. The receipts will reside at Smart & Final’s web site.

The program will use AfterBOT`s ReceiptsPLUS web-service application with Sun Enterprise servers and Sun StorEdge arrays. This is the first e-receipt deployment based on standards developed by the Association for Retail Technology Standards, part of the National Retail Federation.

ReceiptsPLUS provides retailers the ability to create, deliver and archive digital receipts using in-store point- of-sale transaction data.
