WalMart.com has named John Fleming as its new chief operating officer. Fleming had been WalMart.com`s senior vice president of merchandising. He will succeed Jeanne Jackson, formerly Walmart.com president and chief executive officer. Jackson has announced that she will leave WalMart.com after this holiday shopping season.

Jackson joined WalMart.com a year and a half ago when Walmart.com was an independent company operating as a joint venture between Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and venture capital firm Accel Partners. Earlier this year, Wal-Mart bought out the minority interests in WalMart.com. Jackson said she has no immediate plans to join another company. Nike announced this week that Jackson has agreed to join its board of directors.

"We will continue to approach the Walmart.com business as a long-term, strategic initiative," said Lee Scott, president and chief executive officer of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. "Our focus areas remain tighter integration of our online program with our stores, developing additional services under the trusted Wal-Mart name that we can offer online, and continued development of our online shopping site."

Fleming came to Wal-Mart last year from Target Corp., where he was senior vice president of merchandising for the department store division.
