A new competitor in online wine

Scheid Vineyards of Salinas, CA, has launched a web site where wine drinkers can buy limited release, premium red and white wines as well as accessories.

The online wine market, which a few months ago was contracting, suddenly has a new entrant. Scheid Vineyards Inc. of Salinas, CA, today launched www.scheidvineyards.com/winebasket, where wine drinkers can buy limited release, premium red and white wines. The wines that the web site sells previously were available only at Monterey County restaurants or to Scheid’s shareholders, said Scott Scheid, president. "Less than 1% of our annual harvest is made into these very special wines which showcase the quality of Monterey wine grapes and our dedication in the vineyards," Scheid said.

The site also features a variety of accessories, including professional corkscrews, wine glasses and apparel. Visitors also can take a tour through Scheid`s Monterey County vineyards.

Scheid Vineyards is an independent producer of premium wine grapes and operates approximately 6,000 acres of vineyards. It sells most of its grape production under long-term contracts to wineries producing primarily premium quality table wines.
