With catherines.com, Charming Shoppes takes measured approach to the web

Catherines.com is a community and content site, but Charming Shoppes says it’s the first of a gradual strategy that will bring all six of its brands online.

Charming Shoppes Interactive, Inc., a division of Charming Shoppes Inc., is getting ready to go full-scale web. While it has offered the Lane Bryant stores online since 1997, it only just launched Catherine’s Plus Sizes online Aug. 15 as a content and community site. It will phase in catalog browsing online, then e-commerce capabilities, the company says. It is planning a gradual introduction of web sites for its four other brands: Fashion Bug, The Answer, Monsoon and Accessorize.

Charming Shoppes has hired Globix Corp. to provide hosting and network services. "We chose Globix because of its ability to provide us with a complete Internet solution that could be easily scaled as our needs expand. We were also attracted by the security and redundancy features built into the Globix Data Center and its service offerings," said Joe Hardiman, chief technology officer of Charming Shoppes Interactive. "Our proximity to the Globix state-of-art data center in downtown New York City and the company`s proven expertise in serving retailing and fashion industries also factored in to our decision to go with Globix."

Charming Shoppes is a plus-size specialty apparel retailer with over 2,400 stores nationwide.
