J. Crew’s Internet sales grow 41% in August while total sales grow 5.5%

Internet sales at New York-based J. Crew Group Inc. reached $10.6 million in August, up 41% from $7.5 million in August 2000.

Internet sales at New York-based J. Crew Group Inc. reached $10.6 million in August, up 41% from $7.5 million in August 2000, J. Crew reported today. Year-to-date Internet sales reached $56.9 million, up 28% from $44.4 million in last year’s first 30 weeks. Total revenue for J. Crew grew 5.5% in August to $63.6 million from $60.3 million last August. Year-to-date total sales were virtually flat at $399.9 million vs. $397.3 million a year ago.

Catalog sales in August were up slightly over August 2000--$12.1 million vs. $11.1 million. Comparable store sales declined 14.5% in August and 12% year-to-date.

Internet sales account for 14% of J. Crew’s total YTD sales. A year ago, the Internet accounted for 11% of sales.

J. Crew Group is a retailer of men`s and women`s apparel, shoes and accessories. It sells through jcrew.com, the J. Crew catalog, 118 retail stores, 41 factory outlet stores.
