Seattle, Wash. - June 25, 2001 - Appliant, the company that manages the Web, today announced that Victoria`s Secret, the leading specialty retailer of lingerie and personal care products, has selected Lateral Line to monitor the performance of its Web site. By monitoring and reporting real customer transactions in real time, Lateral Line will help Victoria`s Secret gain a deeper understanding of their Web site`s performance, helping pinpoint breakdowns and bottlenecks and determine the causes of performance degradation. Lateral Line will also enable Victoria`s Secret to ensure high customer satisfaction and maximize transaction throughput, and will provide the insight they need to help target infrastructure spending more accurately.

"For a leading online retailer like Victoria`s Secret, poor Web site performance means unhappy customers and lost revenue," said Ken Weil, Vice President, New Media for Victoria`s Secret. "We take pride in our reputation and work hard to ensure a great online shopping experience for our Web site visitors. It is critical that we have the ability to detect and solve performance problems before they impact our customers` experience. The information provided by Lateral Line will help us gain the insight we need to do just that."

Using Lateral Line, Victoria`s Secret has already been able to find and improve the load times of key Web pages that were among the slowest to load on their site. Lateral Line also helped identify opportunities to improve server performance as it related to supporting the retailer`s distributed content delivery network.

"The brand equity of a market leader like Victoria`s Secret is enormous, and we are thrilled that they selected Lateral Line to help them optimize Web site performance for their customers," said Brian Bershad, founder and CEO of Appliant. "Savvy online companies have shown significant interest in Appliant because they realize the importance of performance insight based on real customer data and how this directly impacts their revenue."
