Burlington Coat Factory is deploying a web-based company portal to distribute business applications and company information to 290 stores in 42 states. Burlington Coat Factory will use Oracle9i Application Server to bring those functions to the store.
"By moving to an Internet-based computing model, we expect several positive outcomes. First, Oracle9iAS will help us dramatically accelerate software deployment efforts, because we won`t have to install software on the desktop," said Michael Prince, chief information officer for Burlington Coat Factory. "Then, once the new Internet-based software is in place, we will gain an immediate payback in the form of increased productivity and reduced training and IT costs because of the highly intuitive nature of browser-based software."
Burlington Coat says it has developed several custom applications to automate business processes, such as an invoice matching system, which takes orders and receipts and generates all the necessary receiving documents. The company is using Oracle9iAS to bring its core applications, including the invoice matching and distribution center management, to the Internet. Once the conversion is complete, employees will be able to use more intuitive, browser-based software for handling all of the company`s back-end processes such as invoicing and inventory management.
Once its custom business systems are web-enabled, Burlington Coat Factory plans to use Oracle9iAS to develop portals that will give employees nationwide a customized view of applications and information and allow them to build their own view of applications quickly and easily. In addition to its core portal development features, Oracle9iAS provides an extensible framework for integrating applications and business information. This framework will enable Burlington users to personalize their web sites with the specific functionality they need.
