Webvan tests same-day delivery in Seattle

Webvan is testing a same-day delivery service for its gold and platinum customers. The online grocer plans to expand the service to all Seattle customers and other markets.

Effective tomorrow, Webvan’s most frequent customers in Seattle, Tacomah and Bellevue will be able to receive same-day delivery for groceries ordered before noon Monday through Thursday. Webvan will deliver those orders between 5 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Webvan is testing the service with customers who hold platinum and gold status in the Webvan Rewards program that launched in April. Webvan Rewards earn one point for every dollar they spend at Webvan.com. Platinum customers must earn 2,750 points while gold customers must earn 1,500 points. Customers also get 100 bonus points for deliveries over $100. Webvan says same-day delivery is one of the most requested services from customers. It says it will not decide whether to roll out to other markets until its gauges the response in Seattle.
