Varsity unveils leading AS/400 TMS solution at Distribution/Computer Expo; Supply chain execution suite expands to include international and residential delivery services
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.-May 21, 2001-Varsity Logistics, Inc., the pioneer of integrated small package shipping solutions for the AS/400, today announced that it has launched ShipSoft™ 2.4, the latest release of Varsity`s transportation management solution. ShipSoft 2.4 answers the critical needs of domestic and international parcel shippers to automate and integrate the entire shipping process. As part of the ShipSoft 2.4 launch, Varsity will demonstrate the new version at the Distribution/Computer Expo in Chicago from May 22nd to May 24th.
ShipSoft is a complete, integrated solution for automating parcel, LTL and international package shipments. ShipSoft streamlines the identification of transportation carriers, obtains shipment pricing, ensures compliance with established shipping rules and regulations, and prepares all necessary documentation. ShipSoft gives shippers complete control and visibility through point-to-point tracking and analysis of shipment data maintained in an historical database. This carrier-neutral shipping solution provides a single source for rates and transportation options to support effective, efficient decision making processes. ShipSoft seamlessly interfaces with most major Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Order Entry (OE), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions.

JDR Microdevices, a Varsity customer who recently upgraded to 2.4, is a direct marketer of electronic components and PC peripherals based in San Jose, California. JDR ships more than 500 packages per day. ShipSoft 2.4-A Complete Transportation Management Solution for Global Shippers
The most exciting aspect of ShipSoft 2.4 is the ability to perform automated weigh, rate, label, and manifest functions for international outbound shipments. ShipSoft`s International module automatically prepares and prints international air waybills and export documents (e.g., Shipper`s Export Declaration, Certificate of Origin, and Commercial Invoice), including NAFTA documents, based on information within the ShipSoft database. Plans include international support for all major international parcel carriers, starting with UPS, FedEx, and DHL.
Other new ShipSoft 2.4 features include the additions of the new FedEx Home Delivery and Airborne @Home services, expanding Varsity`s capabilities to include residential delivery services for all carriers.
Lastly, ShipSoft 2.4 is certified for UPS Host Access System Simplified Package Level Detail Format Version 5 (SPF 5). This will allow Varsity customers to take advantage of new capabilities and value-added carrier services that can only be provided through Varsity/UPS connectivity. As an additional benefit, ShipSoft will let users send an e-mail or fax to consignees, via UPS, with status and tracking number information.
