Valentine`s Day created a boom in traffic to flowers and greeting card sites in the past week, according to daily web traffic data released by PC Data Online. 1800flowers.com was the top online florist, with traffic peaking at 256,000 on Feb. 12. Its closest competitor, Proflowers.com, had an early traffic peak on Feb. 7 with 249,000 unique users.
Greeting card sites also prospered from Valentine`s Day activity with BlueMountain.com, AmericanGreetings.com and eGreetings.com all experiencing significant traffic spikes in the past week. Traffic for all three sites peaked on Feb. 14th. BlueMoutain.com`s traffic peaked at 5.3 million unique users, up from 1.1 million the previous week. This was a growth of 371%. AmericanGreetings.com peaked on Feb. 14th with 3 million unique users, a growth of 214% from 969,000 unique users the previous week. With a growth rate of 522%, eGreetings.com had the largest increase among greeting card sites, but its Valentine`s Day peak lagged behind with 1.4 million unique users. It had 227,000 during the preceding week.
Non-traditional greeting card sites such as Passionup.com and Sendafriend.com also benefited from the Valentine`s day boost. Passionup.com, which also offers web messages of romantic poetry, increased its traffic by 105% with 414,000 unique users on Valentine`s Day. With 211,000 unique users, Sendafriend.com experienced a 55% increase in traffic.
