Dec. 22 busiest shopping day for Visa

Visa U.S.A says that its holiday transaction volume peaked on Dec. 22 with total Visa volume, for both online and offline transactions, surpassing $3.8 billion. This represents a 12.5% increase over last year's busiest day, Dec. 23, which totaled $3.42 billion. Visa cardholders spent approximately $3 billion on the Internet between Nov. 24 and Dec. 25, nearly double last year's total of $1.5 billion. Visa's biggest day for e-commerce transactions was Dec. 12, when it processed over $129 million in transactions, a more than two-fold increase over last year's high of $63.5 million on Dec. 17, 1999. Visa saw the online last minute rush on Dec. 20, 2000, when transactions totaled $128 million, falling just short of the busiest day. Visa cards account for more than half of all e-commerce spending volume.
