Visa International is introducing its own Visa-branded digital certificates that will provide secure, protected and authenticated online payment transactions for member banks, bank's customers and online merchants worldwide. Approximately 200 Visa International members plan to use the digital certificates, says a Visa spokesperson. "It's not a payment technology solution on its own, it's an authentication infrastructure solution that helps us develop products and services for internal or external use," the Visa spokesperson says. Dublin, Ireland-based Baltimore Technologies is providing the secure Web access service for Visa that will allow for the creation of digital certificates. The service comes at no additional cost to member banks. The digital certificates also allow for e-mail authentication and desktop security, the Visa spokesperson says.
