In its second-largest acquisition, Amazon buys the company for $970 million.
TruServ Corp., the world's largest member-owned hardware wholesale cooperative, will implement technology from Celarix Inc. to create a supply chain and transportation network to link Truserv's transportation service providers to its regional distribution centers. The resulting real-time information will supply TruServ, its vendors and its carrier partners with real-time global inventory visibility by monitoring orders and shipments in transit. "As we move into the second phase of TruServ's supply chain improvement program, we are focusing on the use of web-based technology," said Bill Godwin, vice president of supply chain for TruServ. "With the Celarix solution, we will be able to closely monitor and measure our transportation service providers. The end result will be a more efficient supply chain that delivers products on time throughout our entire distribution network." TruServ will utilize Celarix Connexion to connect and collaborate with all of the domestic transportation providers in its supply chain, allowing both TruServ and its providers to communicate directly with one another via the web throughout the entire distribution process. With Celarix Visibility, TruServ will be able to reduce its inventory and shorten the time to market through real-time insight into product movements--from the time products arrive at a U.S. port or leave a U.S. factory to the time they arrive at each distribution center.
