Technical Problems Put Amazon in the Dark

Customers trying to shop at Amazon.com Thursday afternoon found the store shut down for about an hour due to a technical problem.

A spokesman says the problem was internal and not caused by a denial of service attack like those affecting Amazon and other popular sites last month. Nor was the shutdown caused by heavy traffic for Stephen King's first e-book, the spokesman adds. The book was unavailable Thursday because too many people were trying to download it.
