BlueLight.com, the e-retail venture being developed by the Kmart Corp. and Softbank, says it will begin a second major wave of promotions for its free Internet service by distributing more than 8 million CD-ROMs through Kmart stores and its call-in center and online. The CD-ROM shipment, which begins this week, is a bid to boost BlueLight's current customer base of nearly 2 million Internet users. BlueLight CEO Mark Goldstein said last week at an Internet retail conference in Chicago that the company is adding 25,000 subscribers per day and aims to be the second largest ISP by the end of the year.

BlueLight.com began distributing the software for its free ISP in mid-December in more than 1,400 Big Kmart and Super Kmart stores, online at BlueLight.com and via the telephone. The company also plans to deploy 2,000 Internet ordering kiosks in Kmart stores by the third quarter.
