AOL Sweepstakes To Encourage Online Shopping

Internet service provider America Online Inc., Dulles, Va., has teamed up with Visa U.S.A.'s eVisa division to create a sweepstakes to motivate AOL customers to use Shop@AOL's Quick Checkout wallet to make online purchases. Visa cardholders who sign up for the electronic wallet will be entered in a sweepstakes that includes a $1 million prize to be awarded after the contest's December 13 close.

Gerry Sweeney, vice president of marketing for San Francisco-based eVisa, says that the sweepstakes is designed to help battle consumers' tendency to abandon online shopping carts due to what he called the "onerous process of filling out forms."
